Transaction-Based Model (TBM)
Definition: A business model based on service fees charged for each transaction conducted using the vendor's equipment, software, services or network. Used by some e-health vendors, including providers of e-prescribing systems.

Master Patient Index (MPI)
Definition: A database program that collects a patient's various hospital identification numbers, e.g. from the blood lab, radiology department, and admissions, and keeps them under a single, enterprise-wide identification number.
